It came with a 120/70 ZR17 front tire and a 190/50 ZR17 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via dual 320mm discs, 4-piston calipers in the front and a single 220mm disc, 2-piston caliper in the rear. The front suspension was a Ohlins fully-adjustable upside-down fork, TiN-coating while the rear was equipped with a Ohlins adjustable monoshock with progressive cantilever linkage. The wheelbase was 55.51 inches (1410 mm) long.

The 1998 MY Ducati 916SPS has, at its heart, a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, 996cc, 90-degree V-Twin powerplant paired to a six-speed manual transmission and can produce a claimed 134 horsepower at 10500 rpm.
Also, it comes with features such as a 43mm Showa fully-adjustable upside-down fork with TiN-coating, an Ohlins adjustable monoshock with a progressive cantilever linkage as a rear suspension, a full-fairing with a small windscreen, cast-magnesium wheels, a single seat, a digital instrumentation panel, an under-seat dual exhaust system and a Brembo braking system with dual front disc brakes and a single disc in the rear.
