The Suzuki RGV 250 SP was a Two stroke, V- twin, reed valve, liquid cooled Sport Bike motorcycle produced by Suzuki in 1997. Max torque was 30.24 ft/lbs (41.0 Nm) @ 8000 RPM. Claimed horsepower was 61.02 HP (45.5 KW) @ 11000 RPM. It could reach a top speed of 202 km/h / 125 mph.
Clearly based on the Suzuki's 500cc Grand Prix motor, the super sporting RGV250, with a claimed 58 bhp pushed the quarter liter class into a new dimension. Its performance often equaled or surpassed 400cc and larger machines. The RGV 250 was not available for sale in the United States. Aprilia's RS250 used the Suzuki RGV250's engine even after it was discontinued.
Engine[edit | edit source]
A 55.9mm bore x 55.9mm stroke result in a displacement of just 249.0 cubic centimeters.
Drive[edit | edit source]
The bike has a 6-Speed transmission. Power was moderated via the Wet, multiplate.
Chassis[edit | edit source]
It came with a 110/70-17 front tire and a 140/60-18 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via Double discs 300 mm in the front and a Single disc 210 mm in the rear. The front suspension was a USD telescopic fork, 5-way adjustable with anti-dive, oil dampened while the rear was equipped with a Full Floater, mono-shock, gas/oil damped, 7-way adjustable. The wheelbase was 54.09 inches (1374 mm) long.
1997 Suzuki RGV 250 SP[edit | edit source]
The RGV250 ran from 1987 to 1997, but they were only officially imported into the UK from 1989 (RGV250 K) to 1994 (RGV250 R). It was a crime against motorcycling when Suzuki decided not to bring the beautifully curvy 1996/97 RGVs to our shores (or the 1991 SP version), which included the fantastic limited edition SP model, complete with a dry clutch, ram air and 70 hp.
1989[edit | edit source]
1991[edit | edit source]
The SP (Japanese Model) comes with a Close ratio gearbox, Dry Clutch, Miukuni 34mm carbs and produce's around 65hp. Only 250 SP models were made.
