Engine
A 88.9mm bore x 88.9mm stroke result in a displacement of just 498.0 cubic centimeters.
Drive
The bike has a 5-Speed transmission. Power was moderated via the Wet, multiplate.
Chassis
It came with a 3.00 -21 front tire and a 4.60 -18 rear tire. Stopping was achieved via Drum in the front and a Drum in the rear. The front suspension was a Telescopic fork, Showa 36 mm, air/oil damped while the rear was equipped with a Swingarm, dual shocks, coil springs, adjustable springload and compression damping. The wheelbase was 57.52 inches (1461 mm) long.
1981 - 1983 Suzuki SP 500
For 1981 there was an entirely new engine, the single remnant of the old being the bore staying at 88mm, with the stroke now growing to 82mm for a grand total of 498cc. According to Suzuki’s official Identification Guide 1970-1990, the SP 500 and DR 500 both ended in 1983, and then the SP 600 appeared in 1985 as a one-year model, after which the SP designation vanished.
