The Honda CX500D was one of Honda's unique longintudinally mounted engined motorcycles similar to what is common on Moto Guzzi's.
When this bike was first introduced, it got negative reviews on appearance from the press.
1979
The CX500D'79 DELUXE was sold in 1979 in one color: Candy Presto Red. The pinstripes were gold. The "CX500 DELUXE" side cover emblem was also gold. The speedometer had a 120 mph (195 kph) limit. The engine was a 496cc OHV liquid-cooled V-twin linked to a 5-speed transmission and a shaft drive. The serial number began PC01-400005
1980
The CX500D'80 DELUXE was sold in 1980 in one color: Candy Presto Red. the pinstripes were gold and red. The "CX500 DELUXE" side cover emblem was gold. The speedometer had a 85 mph (135 kph) limit. The front forks were air adjustable with an equalizer. The engine was a 496cc OHV liquid-cooled V-twin linked to a 5-speed transmission and a shaft drive. The serial number began JH2PC011*BM200001
