The engine was a Liquid cooled cooled Four stroke, transverse four cylinder, DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder, TSCC. The engine featured a 12.2:1 compression ratio.

Suzuki GSX-S 1000 Phantom Special Edition
The 2017 Suzuki GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F Get More Power And
Slipper Clutch. The power has increased from 140hp to 150hp, while
torque is up to 79.6ftlb at 9,500rpm. Suzuki say this increase in
power is thanks to new crankcase ventilation holes.
Another great new feature is the
addition of a slipper clutch that allows for smoother downshifts and
prevents the rear wheel from locking up during such maneuvers.
Visually, the two models are almost identical to the previous version. However, both the GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F got blacked-out levers and foot controls. The faired version also benefits from a slightly more tinted windscreen.
