Cylinder ArrangementsEdit

  • Straight-four: has its cylinders arranged in a single row. It is often used in high-end sportbikes and super sports motorcycles.
  • V-twin: has the cylinders are arranged in a V configuration (Harley, Ducati, large displacement Honda).
  • V-three: has the cylinders are arranged in a V configuration.
  • V-four: has the cylinders are arranged in a V configuration (Harley, Ducati, large displacement Honda).
  • V-five: has the cylinders are arranged in a V configuration
  • Boxer twin: two cylinders arranged on opposite sides of the crankshaft (BMW).
  • Radial: Cylinders are arranged in a radial fashion around the crankshaft (Wankel).
  • Square-four: has its cylinders arranged in a two rows. It is usually an exotic configuration used mostly for experimental bikes.
